Author Guidelines

  • Authors must prepare their contributions using the Bluebook style manual of legal documentation (i.e., your citations must conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation, 20th ed., 2015, or 19th ed., 2010, but no earlier).
  • Please note the following general rules of the “Bluebook”: titles of books should be in big caps; titles of law review articles and book chapters should be italicized; and journal names should be abbreviated and in small caps. Here are a few examples of proper citation style:
  1. ALISON BRYSK, GLOBAL GOOD SAMARITANS: HUMAN RIGHTS AS FOREIGN POLICY (2009) (book monograph).
  2. Mike Gonzalez, Communism in Latin America, in OXFORD HANDBOOK OF THE HISTORY OF COMMUNISM 252-67 (Stephen A. Smith ed., 2014) (article in an edited volume)
  3. James C. McKinley Jr., Fidel Castro Resigns as Cuba’s President, N.Y. TIMES (Feb. 20, 2008), https://www.nytime.com/2008/02/20/world/americas/20castro.html [https://perma.cc/ZVV6-CEA8] (newspaper story with permanent link)
  4. Philip C. Aka, Analyzing U.S. Commitment to Socioeconomic Human Rights, 39 AKRON L. REV. 417 (2006) (article)
  • The manuscript should range in length from 9,000-12,000 words, meaning 32-48pages, double space, Times New Roman or Arial 12-point font (250 words per page), footnotes included. Contributors should submit their manuscript, properly saved in Microsoft Word document format, not PDF signing in the journal's webpage: http://www.iuslawjournal.ius.edu.ba/
  • Please include a short abstract with your submission, along with an updated CV.
  • In preparing and submitting papers, please do not leave any signs, such as a bio-statement or reference to your work that will identify you to our editorial staff or reviewers. Contributors who are non-native English speakers are advised to have their work edited by a native English speaker.
  • Each web link should please include a permalink, created at https://perma.cc.
  • Quotations in the text should appear within double quotation marks, as follows: “” Quotations of 50 words or more should be indented .5” along the left margin, without quotation marks.

  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
